New Series of TV Show Food Tripper Comes to Cyprus

• Episode 1 of new series devoted to the land of Halloumi and honey
• Focus on local, traditional produce as Cyprus undergoes a food renaissance with traditional favourites making a comeback alongside dishes with a contemporary twist
• Screenings on the Travel Channel September and October, starting 29 September 2011
  

With its combination of traditional dishes with a modern twist, Cyprus - at the crossroads of three continents – continues to set the standard for Mediterranean food when it comes to culinary delights. Favourites such as pork afelia and the pasta dish pastitsio are making a welcome comeback, sitting alongside modern dishes using locally sourced meat and fish, served in the typical laid back Cypriot style.

Gourmet travel expert and TV presenter Helen Hokin was so taken with the region’s food and wine offerings that she has dedicated an entire programme of her TV series Food Tripper to the Mediterranean island. With a focus on traditional produce Helen seeks out homemade Halloumi cheese so good that the locals walk up the mountain daily to secure fresh supplies, and finds plenty of herbal inspiration on the island, from the famous local wild thyme infused honey to the blending skills of modern herbalist Miranda Tringis.

Food from the region has enjoyed a rise in profile in recent years with Mediterranean-style sharing plates such as stuffed vegetables, meat mezze and grilled halloumi becoming increasingly popular both home and abroad.
